TL;DR
- Comfy winter outfits for running errands should be snuggly enough for home and put together enough for coffee or groceries.
- Flat-waist sweats look more streamlined than tie-waist under a sweater.
- Trying a trend like velvet barrel pants? Keep it monochrome or tonal.
- A scarf near your eyes finishes the look.

Amazon Edition
I want my comfy winter outfits to pull double duty. A good running errands outfit, for me, is snuggly enough to wear at home while I’m studying or cooking or prepping for the week (loungewear), and put together enough that I can pop out for coffee or groceries without changing (the magic of these outfits).
My approach to loungewear: it can be super comfortable and plush, with textures that are a pleasure to touch (faux fur counts), and still look a little dressed up while it feels pajama-adjacent. If you ever struggle with your mood, I think it helps to dress a smidge nicer than you actually want to. I know my days are totally different depending on how I dress. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is just get dressed and show up.
So here are my Amazon finds for clothes that are cozy enough for the couch and fine for the checkout line.
Tie Waist or Flat Waist? A Comfy Errands Outfit Side-by-Side
Two pairs of sweats can feel exactly the same on the couch. A quick picture can tell them apart.

I added these SUPER similar pairs of sweatpants to a side-by-side comparison poll in the app.
One is the barrel leg sweats and the other is these fleece lined pants.
To do that, I chose this second option “compare side by side” after uploading the first pic to the app (press the + to add a pic.)
The first option would add the pic to your own calendar and doesn’t add another picture next to it.

I usually add things that aren’t part of my wardrobe quite yet, which I’m still considering as Preshopping.
I should probably start a Collection called “Maybe” or “Testing”??
Add more context in the description so we know what we are voting on if you want a poll (you’ll select time in the next frame).
If you end the poll immediately (so it’s mainly for your own purposes to see something side by side), add context for yourself, so you don’t forget what you were wondering/thinking (I’m very guilty of this and am constantly wondering if I need to increase the character limit in this part of the app??).

For what it’s worth, this image has the majority of votes.
But always feel free to ignore a vote on a poll.
I highly recommend you pull out two pants today and figure out if they lay differently. It’s very satisfying to see “the proof” in the side by side.
Dig out something with a string at the waist and then something that lies flat at the waist, and wear them with the same T-shirt, and just see what happens.
The flat waist is the more streamlined of the two. It lies smooth under a sweater, so you look like you got dressed on purpose and still feel like you’re in sweatpants. A drawstring bunches right in the middle. Unless you’re doing the millennial tuck, in which case tuck the front of that sweater and show off your little bow. Go for it!
For comfy casual outfits in winter that read more like “real pants” (whatever that means), the tapered elastic waist corduroy pants have the elastic too.

A Fleece Lined Tights Outfit Starts With One Scalloped Sweatshirt

The tunic length scalloped sweatshirt is begging for these fleece-lined leggings.
The tunic with scallops comes in 11 colors!
The length covers enough to wear it with tights instead of pants, and the fleece lined leggings come in a 3-pack.
The pastel Salomon waterproof sneakers are rain-and-snow perfection.
When it’s colder, put the floral fleece with the floral trim over one of these insanely soft closet staples: the warm lined tank (wearing as I type this), the merino blend tee for super cold climates, and a top that layers under everything comfy (obsessed with the puff sleeve and smocked finish at the end of the sleeve). Finish by throwing on the leopard shearling-lined tennis shoes. That’s a casual errands outfit you can also cook dinner in.

Tonal or Monochromatic Barrel Pants Outfit Ideas for the Trend-Nervous
Barrel legs are all over this list: Levi’s barrel jeans (non-stretch) and the barrel-shaped velvet lace-trimmed pants are perfect for comfy cold weather home to errands, back to home outfits.
When you’re trying something crazy trendy, like the velvet pants, you can stay in your comfort zone with color.
On top go the winter wardrobe essentials you’ll wear on repeat: the crewneck, the turtleneck, and the v-neck.

Try a tonal or monochrome outfit to ease into the trend: elastic waist cord barrel pants and a turtleneck sweater (100% merino).
The brown suede chunky horse bit boots are another classic element like the turtleneck to ground the trendy shaped pants.
Or go tonal, like an olive merino sweater with the green velvet pants.
A black barrel pants outfit follows the same rule: black sweater, black pants, and the shape gets to be the interesting part.
Captoe shoes keep the whole outfits classic, classic, classic.

Velvet barrel pants in a trendy or out of the comfort zone shape are exactly one of the best use cases for logging what you wear in the Adjust My Crown app.
Run the “3-Look Check first:

- look back (have you worn a barrel shape in the last two months or an outfit where you could have swapped in one of these barrel options?)
- look ahead (which real dates on your calendar might you wear them?), and
- look around (can you make three outfits with what you already own?)
Ballet Flats Outfit, Winter Errands Edition
I’m totally fine with a ballet flats outfit in winter if you’re just popping in and out of your car into the grocery store or coffee shop, etc. You could add sheer socks if you need. The suede almond-toe Project Cloud ballet flats look polished with just about any outfit you throw them on with and the same for the Dream Pairs foldable ballet flats.
Amazon Winter Outfits That Are a Smidge More Dressed Up
Some of these finds are a little fancier. The green faux fur jacket is plush and soft and makes a sweatshirt look like a decision. The bomber-style fur-lined jacket does the same job with a sportier shape.
Then look at the slouchy pearl embellished sweater dress. It’s basically wearing a nightgown, with pearls, and nobody at the coffee shop needs to know.
For knits that do the dressing up over plain sweats, the embroidered vine sweater and the ruffle collar cardigan are the ones.
The third piece: a scarf
A comfy outfit looks finished once it has a third piece. Comfy base plus a scarf is the whole outfit formula, and it makes a lounge-y outfit a tiny bit dressed up and complete. Choose a scarf that complements your eyes, since it sits right next to your face.

This scarf on Amazon could be fabulous on a blond.
This scarf on Amazon needs you to buy it immediately if you have blue eyes! It works with any capsule colors because it’s outerwear and matches your eyes no matter what color you’re wearing.
This colorful scarf on Amazon is for when you’re craving more color and something a smidge on trend.
These patterned scarves on Amazon and this one are fantastic if you want pattern.
And finally, this scarf on Amazon is perfect if you love the look of the Hermès 140cm shawls.
The cardigan with a built-in scarf on Amazon, if you’d rather the scarf come attached.
Winter Wardrobe Essentials, Plus a Pink Duster for Spring
Then the pink ruffle knit duster over any of the bottoms and a simple t-shirt feels like a robe thrown over pjs. It comes in a lot of colors, and it’s going to be a really great transition piece for spring.
Comfy Outfits for Winter, Saved Where I’ll Find Them
Once an outfit has made it to the coffee shop and back, I save it to the Calendar and in a collection in AMC. On cold mornings I open that collection instead of staring into my closet. Most apps on our phones are built to hook us. AMC is built to help, then let you get back to your coffee.
